Southern Avenue
Southern Avenue is currently on tour throughout the continental US. Check their TOUR page for details.
Southern Avenue is a Memphis street that runs from the easternmost part of the city limits all the way to Soulsville, the original home of Stax Records. Southern Avenue is also the name of a fiery young Memphis quintet that embodies its home city's soul, blues and gospel traditions, while adding a youthful spirit and dynamic energy all their own. "If Memphis music is a genre, this is it!" proclaims American Blues Scene, and Rock 103FM calls Southern Avenue, "The most-talked-about band in Memphis." Their self-titled debut album is a breath of fresh air with its own unique blend of gospel- tinged R&B vocals, roots/blues-based guitar work and soul-inspired songwriting. And Southern Avenue’s upcoming release on the fabled Stax label is a testament to the young combo's talent and vision. Southern Avenue features five young but seasoned musicians who came from diverse musical and personal backgrounds to create music that spans their wide-ranging musical interests, while showcasing the powerful chemistry that the group has honed through stage and studio experience. " We've been using the StompLight package Michael designed for our band these past few shows and even with just using the color wheel & mic mode, the vibe has been great! They've worked really well at the smaller theaters/clubs we played after leaving San Francisco. We are digging them; they've been fantastic for such a simple setup. Thank you.. thank you!" Don Alder has been featured in numerous guitar magazines, has millions of youtube views, performed duets with Grammy Winners, Angelique Kidjo and John Parr and has been in shows and festivals that included artists such as Steve Vai, Lee Ritnour, David Foster, Victor Wooten, Sarah Mclauglin, Andy Mckee, Tommy Emmanuel and Billy Sheehan (Mr.Big). His music combines deeply textured melody and rhythm, soulful singing with haunting lyrics and his guitar fireworks and fabulous storytelling makes his shows highly entertaining and talked about for days. And, Don’s heart is as big as his talent. In 1985 he put his music career on hold for 2.5 years to help his lifelong friend go around the world in a wheelchair, an amazing journey with a story that has become part of Canadian History. In 2006, Director Michael French produced a feature film about the story, www.heartofadragonmovie.com which includes Don as one of the main characters portrayed by actor Andrew Lee Potts. Alder continues to perform around the world entertaining audiences and inspiring people and guitarists wherever he goes. "I learned about the StompLight Light Effects pedal awhile back and was totally blown away with the concept of a portable lightshow packaged up in at footstomp pedal. Its extremely portable and powerful now hoping they invent version II that includes dancing girls and lasers. I love this pedal and it goes to all my gigs." - DA |

This is one very smart idea - the lighting is top notch and the form factor allows it to be easily used in any live performance or studio situation. Having performed in a wide variety of venues; stadiums, theaters, clubs and even backyards - I have learned that lighting is essential component to any good performance. It’s now super easy to have professional grade lighting n a rugged portable package providing rich atmosphere and huge visual impact - in any setting. Setup is a breeze - taking literally 1 min to set up my StompLight and Pal. No stands or plugs necessary! I’m using my StompLights n conjunction with our our larger light system on large shows as well as on my smaller gigs. Added bonus - I also use these in my home studio - great club like atmosphere. James Nash
James Nash is no stranger to musical diversity. As at home with Charlie Parker and Bill Monroe as he is with Django Reinhardt and Jimi Hendrix, the accomplished guitarist embraces the potential challenges of playing multiple genres with both joy and aplomb. " Great venues always have great lighting, it’s just part of the package. And once you’ve played places that really do it right, it is a SERIOUS bummer to try to make music in the shadows. No matter how well you play, if the audience can’t see you, everything just feels a little flat." |
